Introduction
Here you will find information on the general procedure for Bachelor's and Master's theses within our working group. You can find information on possible topics in the focus areas of the respective members of our working group.
Prerequisites
If you would like to write a Bachelor's thesis in our working group, the following requirements must be met:
1. You have already earned 120 credits in your degree program (BPO §20(4)).
2. You have successfully completed the modules DAP1, DAP2, GTI and all mathematics modules.
Without proof of these prerequisites, a discussion of possible topics is illusory.
Procedure
If you meet the above requirements, you qualify to apply for the supervision of a Master's or Bachelor's thesis by members of our working group. If you are interested in a thesis that is thematically compatible with the focus of the working group, you can send a corresponding request by e-mail to our employees.
The request should include the following:
- Brief introduction of yourself (course of study, excerpt of grade transcript, important modules passed? (see above))
- Desired subject area (or specific topic, if applicable) of the thesis
- Planned period of the thesis
If your request is not rejected, you will discuss a topic area with an employee of the working group in a preliminary meeting. Further details and limitations of the thesis are usually set out in an exposé that you prepare and submit independently and promptly. It should be noted that a preliminary discussion or the submission of a synopsis does not constitute a commitment to supervise a thesis; this is only secured once your thesis has been officially registered. It is common for your exposé to have to be corrected and resubmitted. Registration usually takes place after consultation with your supervisor. Due to the limited capacities of our employees, the principle of first come, first served applies here.
After registering to supervise a thesis, you are expected to attend our final seminar, where you will gain an insight into the related theses of your fellow students. After submitting your thesis, you will give a final presentation at our seminar. You will schedule this with your supervisor when you submit your thesis. In the case of a Master's thesis, you will be required to give an introductory lecture presenting your research project in the same context.
Synopsis
The synopsis should be within these requirements:
- 2-3 pages
- Working title
- Brief introduction to the context
- Problem definition (problems and challenges of the context and the specific question of the planned thesis)
- Motivation
- Objective
- Approach
- Preliminary outline
- Preliminary literature
